GE 393 RLP - Business Plan Workshop for Technology Entrepreneurs An Aside on Intellectual Property and the Disclosure of Ideas
IP is a sticky business. The subject of intellectual property (IP) is a sticky one. In this course, ideas are the property of the inventor, and appropriate steps should be taken by the inventor to protect valuable ideas. The Business Plan Workshop for Technology Entrepreneurs is, however, an educational experience that requires (1) the public presentation of business concepts and plans and (2) the submission of detailed business plans. This information will be seen by teachers, mentors, class members, and class visitors who will not be bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Certain projects not appropriate for this class. If a student has a business concept that is so sensitive that it cannot be safely presented in public, then that idea is not suitable for investigation in this class. It is the case, however, that the functional characteristics of many ideas can be presented without jeopardizing trade secrets, the details of a forthcoming patent filing, or other sensitive information. Such a presentation is sufficient for the preparation of a business plan, and most real-world plans are presented to VCs without the protection of an NDA. This model will be strictly followed in this class and no NDAs or private screenings of presentations will be considered. |
